A Woman's (and Man's) Right to Shoes.

Who doesn't love shoes? You can spend hours trawling the shops for the perfect pair. Who wouldn't want to customise their own like their favourite celebrity?

I was happy to find out that Converse's UK online store has introduced Design Your Own.

I love the fact that you can completely design your own Converse from the style of shoe (High top, skate shoe etc) down to the colour of the stitches and the eyelet. You can choose from several patterns and colours. This creative tool is for everyone, as soon as I told my fiance about this, he was soon designing the pair of Converse he's always wanted.

My next one is solely for the girls. I've known about this about this site for a while, so I thought this was the perfect time to showcase it. Allow me to introduce to you, Shoes of Prey. They may not be very cheap, but imagine the shoes you'll wear for your wedding.

They have such a wide selection of materials to create your dream shoes, but there's also so many styles of shoes to begin with. You can change heel size, toe shape etc. I love the addition of glitter, the different decorations you can have.

Hell, even if you can't afford them, designing your own shoes is fun!

Given that this blog is called 'Owlie Sound' it's safe to assume that I like owls, and I love owl jewelry.
I present to you, my Owl Earrings.

The fat little gold ones I found in New Look and the thin silver ones came from Tesco.

I may have to photograph my other owl things.....

The Carrie Files #5

I have chosen this rather ecclectic look from the first movie, one from Carrie's dark period, although it's one of those outfits that only Carrie could pull off, there are certain pieces that would work well together in a different outfit. Plus those argyll socks are the cutest!

Coat: French Connection at Littlewoods £240
Top: Asos £12
Skirt: New Look £15.99
Socks: Asos £5
Shoes: Forever 21 £24.75
Big bag: New Look £19.99
Small bag: New Look £12.99

Carrie actually uses two bags in this scene, I never realised until I wastched the movie to get a proper look.

I didn't realise how difficult it'd be to find a coat like that, I wanted to find a woolen coat as that's what she wears, another hard thing to find was the tshirt. The best alternative was the plain tshirt I featured or having one printed yourself, like from here.

You really have to love Carrie Bradshaw!

Chocolate Dreams

Aah time for another wants. This time in delicious shades of brown.

This cardigan is so perfection, the colour is a beautiful rusty shade and the buckle fastenings are so quirky. It reminds me of the 1940's style, somehow. The fact that it's boxy could be a big turn off but the deep v neck saves it, allowing it to showcase your shape, not drown it.

As soon as I saw this backpack I adored it, and technically it is brown considering the straps and buckles are brown *cough* I think it's great for long weekends, festivals or day trips. This is the perfect backpack as most are so unflattering utilitarian or masculine yet this is so obviously feminine.

The skirt is a nice clean shape, a cool, retro, 70's style. The buttons make it look less frumpy.

One of my favourite things at this time of year is the knitwear, cables being my favourite. So this waistcoat is so charming, with it's geek cool vibe.

I adore these boots, I think they'd go with dresses, skirts, shorts, jeans, basically anything. They'll see you through the Autumn season but also through Winter.

Peace, love and all that jazz. xo

Hey

I'm a little behind on my blogging, blame Harry Potter. I'll be creating posts over the next few days and I'm writing up a few reviews as we speak, or as you read this.

Although, be thankful as my knitting blog has suffered lately, I'm trying to get that up to date too.

Test Subject: Natural Collection Water Guard Mascara

This time I shall be reviewing the Natural Collection Water Guard Mascara from Boots.

What they say:

Natural Collection Water Guard Mascara defines the lashes at the same time as being waterproof and smudge resistant.

What I say:

This mascara makes no great claims like so many other waterproofs, yet it works fine. I bought it as a 'throw away item' as I knew I'd only use it once (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt2) yet I find myself impressed with it. It doesn't feel heavy or goopy like other waterproofs and regular mascaras, it goes on easy and looks rather nice once applied.

It does smell though, but you don't smell with your eyes.

It performed well, better than expected actually, it stayed on even though I cried, it only smudged, and then not alot, when I was chopping onions and rubbed my eyes.
For £1.99 it's a rather good mascara and it comes in 2 shades Brown or Black.

I like the design of the packaging, it's simple yet effective, pretty even.

I give this a thumbs up.

Bag Books: The World of Karl Pilkington

Another future feature on my blog, if you're intruiged as to what this title is, read on.

I wonder, in this digital age, how many of us carry books in our bags?
I do, they make longer journeys easier. I swap them depending on my mood, and I have been known to carry my hardback Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in my bag. Here I give you my opinions of books, that I have read, and think that would make an enjoyable read on the go, or whilst simply relaxing.

The book I currently have in my bag is: Ricky Gervais presents The World of Karl Pilkington

I purchased this book due to my current obsession with the comedic trio of Gervais, Merchant and, the afore mentioned, Pilkington. I find this particular book to be delightful, though it is the transcripts of the sketches seen in season one of The Ricky Gervais Show, it's accompanied by simple yet brilliant illustrations straight from the hand of Pilkington himself.

Though I already know the content of this book, it still makes me laugh, and the fact that it's sectioned into 'chapters' and has no linear narrative means that you can pick it up at random, choosing which section you'd like to read, or in some cases just browse the illustrations.

Pilkington's naivity and simpleness really make him a loveable character, and in no way could you take offense to anything he says, this is what makes him so funny. Combine then, this character with the intellectual, and funny in his own right, character of Merchant and the big character that is Gervais, and you have a comedically great trio who will have you laughing for hours.

These are some of the reasons that this is a great bag book, but I implore you to read it yourself.

I found my copy in my local HMV for £4.

The Carrie Files #3

Another look from the first Sex and the City movie.

Again, another look where Carrie is on the phone to Samantha!

Cardigan: Asos £74.99
Tshirt: Asos £6
Skirt: Peacocks £18
Gloves: Ebay £9.99
Socks: Asos £4
Shoes: New Look £24.99
Bag: New look £7.99

Having chose to create this look in July I know cardigans of winter quality are of short stock and I may just update when A/W2011 is in full swing on the hightstreet. I chose a longer skirt than Carrie wears, but you could always 'hoist it up!'

I really love this look, and I really love the gloves.

*****EDIT******
(25/07/2011)
I think this cardigan would make a good alternative to the one I posted previously.

Supermarket Supreme!

Not the first place you'd think of going for your fashion and beauty needs, though your local supermarket could hold some piece that you fall for.

I have found some great pieces in my local supermarkets, Tesco and Asda, as well as your basics.
Recently I picked up a cute pair of pink polkadot shorts and very me, yellow flower print pleated dress for an up coming gig I'll be attending. On New years Eve I purchased some gold high heels for the night from Tesco too.

You can find some make up brands that are exclusive to certain stores, I really like my Barbara Daly foundation which I got in my local supermarket.

So next time you're buying your food, have a nosey at they're clothes section, you might be surprised.

Julie Blue

Points for whoever gets the root of the post title.
I'm in a Blue mood this month, so I present you my top picks.

The parasol is very cute, I've always loved the oriental style, and this is just so beautiful. It's just a beautiful shade of blue and the little flowers are so cute. Though perhaps not the most practical piece to, but then, when has fashion ever been about being practical?

I really like the shades of this eye pencil, they'd work well together or seperate. It's a bargain too.

I think the dress is very pretty, it's in a 50's style but has the quirky little cut out front which gives it a more-sexy-than-cute vibe. The colour would flatter most skin types, I think. It would look spectacular with a yellow skinny belt.

This bag is just so spectacular, this is the first example of colour blocking that I'd use. I love the blue and yellow together, and the clasp. This would really brighten up a jeans and tshirt combo.

Agate is everywhere right now, and I really admire it. It's a beautiful blue, and I love my accessories, hence me featuring this necklace.

A girl can never be apart from her shoes, and I am said girl. I really like these flats, they have that really sweet cut out detail and they're such a nice colour. Sadly it appears that these shoes have sold out online.

Finally, this top is so sweet. I love the Cath Kidson-esque print, combined with the lace trim just makes it super cute! Sadly it appears that this has also sold out online.

The Carrie Files #2

A fun, everyday Carrie look.

I have chosen to recreate this look fro the first movie, where Carrie calls Samantha to tell her about her engagement to Big. This look always sticks in my mind every time I see the movie.

The colour of Carrie's shift dress is very beautiful but it is given an edgey look with the belt and the shoes. The bag just adds some metalic glamour to the whole outfit.

Dress: Asos £35
Belt: Forever 21 £4.90
Shoes: Forever 21 £22.75
Necklace: New Look (Was £4.99) £3
Bag: Asos £25

I just recreated a designer look for under £100!

Man Products: Hemp Hand Protector

Hemp Hand Protector from The Body Shop.

What they say:

Our cult hand cream for very dry skin is dermatologically tested. It intensively rehydrates skin and conditions nails.

  • Relieves very dry skin
  • Restores moisture and suppleness
  • Conditions nails

What he says:

Takes a little while to sink in but the aftermath is worth it.

What I say:

This is a slightly heavy cream, but it is for very dry skin, and it does take a while to sink in, the scent is slightly overwhelming at first but you barely notice it once you use it a few times. It's a really good cream for hard working hands, builders, guitarists etc. as it really hydrates your hands.

Hemp Hand Protector: £5
